The Electric City/La Nouvelle France Society

about

The Electric City/La Nouvelle France Society is a non-profit, charitable organization whose mission is "to protect and preserve significant heritage sites by restoring, developing, and maintaining a public historical interpretive centre on the history and heritage of The Electric City/La Nouvelle France with a view to commemorating the site and educating the public about it; also, to advance education on the local history and heritage of The Electric City/La Nouvelle France by providing guided tours of historical sites, as well as organizing theatrical performances, workshops, school group initiatives and lectures."

The Electric City/La Nouvelle France was one of Canada's first truly multicultural societies, founded in 1893 by the entrepreneurial Stehelin family of Gisors, France in order to provide a safe and prosperous environment to raise their eleven children, far way from the wars of Europe. Innovative and fair-minded, they employed a diverse group of people, treating and paying all equally.
