The Eye Foundation of Canada (EFC) is an independent non-profit organization founded in 1989 that remains committed to its mission to “promote the preservation, enhancement, and restoration of sight through innovative research, advanced education, and improvement of patient care.”

For over 35 years, EFC has promoted research and education. Through its Summer Scholarship Program, started in 1991, EFC awards scholarships to outstanding medical students to encourage them to pursue an academic career in ophthalmology. EFC Graduates have become significant in the ophthalmic community, both nationally and internationally. Most recently, an Eastern Chapter of EFC has been established in Montreal, Quebec! This initiative is evidence of our firm commitment to ophthalmic education and research among Canadian medical students and improved vision care for all Canadians.

The distinguished 60+ EFC scholars have not only collectively helped preserve and enhance the sight of over 1 million Canadian patients but have also become EFC mentors and global leaders in Ophthalmology. This legacy of education and the continued success of EFC have been possible through the generous support of regular sponsors and donors, from community “sight” events that raise awareness of eye care and help support research, and from our annual fundraiser: Thanks for my Sight Night. The event is attended by medical doctors, medical students, opticians, professionals, community partners, family, friends, patients, and board members of the Foundation.  Over $1,000,000 has been raised to meet EFC goals so far.
