Jeffrey Lem Memorial Scholarship

Jeffrey Lem passed away suddenly, but peacefully, on September 3, 2023, at the age of 61.  Jeff was a longtime member and supporter of the Federation of Chinese Canadian Professionals (Legal Section).

Prior to joining the public sector serving as the Director of Titles for the Province of Ontario, Jeffrey practiced real estate law in Toronto at several of Canada's leading law firms. He had the honour of receiving both the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers' Lifetime Achievement Award and the Toronto Lawyers Association's Honsberger Award recognizing his commitment to the legal profession. Jeffrey was also the youngest ever recipient of the Ontario Bar Association's Award of Excellence. Jeffrey was a role model and mentor to many. He taught at Osgoode Hall Law School and Lakehead University. He lectured frequently throughout Canada and internationally on real estate law, land registration, and professional responsibility. He will be remembered as being the real estate law community's most prolific writer. Despite his unparalleled work ethic and numerous professional accolades, Jeffrey was first and foremost a family man.

Jeff's family will be using these funds to establish a memorial scholarship/awards in his honour at Osgoode Hall Law School at York University, his alma mater.  The criteria for the scholarship/awards will be established by Jeff's family with Osgoode administration.  Donations for this scholarship are sincerely appreciated by his family as a way to continue his legacy of mentoring young lawyers and making an impactful difference to all of those who worked with him.

The FCCP Education Foundation administers scholarships and awards to qualified students with outstanding achievement while attending Ontario post-secondary institutions, irrespective of race, creed and religion, as a way for Chinese-Canadian professionals to give back.  Once established, the post-secondary institutions are responsible for deciding upon annual recipients based on the criteria of the scholarships and awards and reporting to the Foundation.  The Foundation currently manages over 35 scholarships/awards at 10 universities/colleges in Ontario.
