The Society operates a Food Bank within the City of Fort Saskatchewan.
The Fort Saskatchewan Food Gatherers Society operates the Fort Saskatchewan Nourishment Centre, the only food bank serving the City of Fort Saskatchewan. We provide food support and essential resources to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity, ensuring no one in our community is left behind.
Our work is powered entirely by community generosity. We receive no municipal, provincial or federal government funding and rely on donations to keep our doors open. With 4 full time staff and a dedicated team of more than 175 volunteers, we work together to meet the growing community needs with compassion, dignity, and care.
Through our Hamper Program, offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, clients can receive nutritious food once a month, including fresh produce, dairy, meat, and staple items.
Our Second Servings Program is available to clients on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. This program rescues and redistributes surplus food from local retailers’ providing clients with access to fresh items as often as needed while reducing food waste.
To enhance the monthly hamper service there is a Shopping Day Program allows individuals to choose additional essentials such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, and extra food, supporting both dignity and choice. The date is set based on product donations.
The Society runs a School Support Program that is available to all Fort Saskatchewan Schools to ensure children are not experiencing hunger during the school day.
In addition to providing food and connecting individuals with supportive referrals, we work alongside local agencies to extend our reach and support other community programs with essential food and resources.
During the holiday season, we lead the City’s primary Christmas Hamper & Toy Campaign, delivering food and gifts directly to families in need. With the help of volunteers, we help ensure every child experiences the joy of Christmas morning.
Your support makes all of this possible.
Our Mission: To empower our community by nourishing bodies, hearts, and minds.
