The Friends of Wesleyville Village was formed in 2008 to save and restore the abandoned remaining heritage cultural landscape of this tiny Ontario Village.
Each year 6 to 10 fund-raising community events help the process but significant donations are needed to achieve the mission and goals:
Mission To preserve the cultural landscape of the abandoned village community of Wesleyville for the purpose of commemorating the lives of our forbears and educating the people of today regarding their way of life and values and their relevance to today’s community life.
Goals
- To restore and preserve the heritage properties which make up the cultural landscape known as Wesleyville Village – namely a small church, a one-room school, two residences, associated property and outbuildings
- To advance education by improving the public’s understanding of the cultural and natural heritage of Wesleyville Village and the Municipality of Port Hope, through hosting events, displays and performances and by producing educational material
- To collaborate with educational institutions and other stakeholders to promote the heritage properties for appropriate uses, and
- To raise sufficient funds, over the long term, to achieve these on- going objectives.
