University of Toronto is mourning the loss of the 176 passengers and crew, including 57 Canadians, who were killed in the crash of Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 in Tehran, Iran.

Eight members of the U of T community, including six students, were among those whose names were on the plane’s passenger manifest.

In the wake of this unspeakable tragedy, we wish to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives. This is a time of heartbreaking grief and sadness.

To honour the memory of those lost, the University of Toronto has established an Iranian Student Memorial Scholarship Fund. This endowed fund will provide needs-based scholarships to international undergraduate or graduate students from Iran or students from any background studying Iranian studies at U of T.

To support this initiative, all donations to the Iranian Student Memorial Scholarship Fund will be matched by the University. The first $250,000 received will be matched at an effective rate of 3:1. Any funds received beyond this $250,000 threshold will be matched at a rate of 1:1.
