about

Our Mission

To enrich the wellbeing of the greater Hamilton region by engaging, educating and inspiring the community through outstanding professional orchestral music.

About The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra

The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra has been an integral part of the community for over a century, tracing its roots back to the 1880s when the first orchestral ensemble was formed in Hamilton. The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra is a professional ensemble and has played an important role in shaping the cultural landscape of the City of Hamilton and the surrounding region. In 2021, the Hamilton Philharmonic Youth Orchestra merged with the HPO to become the flagship music education program.

Today, the HPO is one of the finest regional, professional orchestras in Canada and a leader in Hamilton’s robust arts community. Our programs are created to energize, move and inspire our diverse community. We do this by programming a wide range of music, from all over the world, from many different styles, genres and time periods. Each season we present an average of nine mainstage concert weeks and more than sixty outreach and education programs in the community.

Named the City of Music, Hamilton’s arts and culture scene is at the heart of the City’s personality and supports the creativity and innovation of one of Canada’s fastest growing cities. Each season we engage thousands of people in our community. From Hamilton, Burlington, Ancaster, Dundas and the surrounding region, we connect with people of all ages through mainstage, community and education programs.
