Applewood – The Shaver House

about

This furnished Victorian home is located on the original Shaver farm in Etobicoke (now Toronto) Ontario.  Saved from demolition in 1980 by enthusiastic volunteers who formed the James Shaver Woodsworth Homestead Foundation, the historic 19th-century house is now used for weddings, community meetings, for movie and photo shoots, and will provide tours for interested individuals and groups.  A small collection of period and Shaver/Woodsworth artifacts is on display.  Learn more about “Applewood”, the Etobicoke birthplace of J.S. Woodsworth, founder of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) party, by visiting our web site at www.applewoodshaverhouse.ca .

The Applewood-Shaver House is maintained by a charitable Foundation, with no support from public funds.  Anyone can join the Foundation and pay a small annual membership fee.  Donations are welcome.  Volunteers help run special events and serve on our Board.  A small and dedicated staff runs the day-to-day operations at this unique community amenity.
