The John Di Battista Foundation

about

The John Di Battista Foundation was created in memory of a son, brother, uncle, and husband taken from this world too soon. To keep his memory alive, the Foundation is run by volunteers dedicated to supporting causes that affected the person we loved. At John’s request, we support The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

John Di Battista passed away from a hard-fought battle with cancer in March 2014. He was only 34 years old, with so much life still to live. Only two years before, he married the love of his life, Mary. John was an inspiration to those around him. He embodied what it means to be a friend, with a spirit that instantaneously made you feel welcome and at ease. He was understanding and had a willingness to help anyone. John was the genuine article. He gave his all to everything he did – he even smiled with his entire body.John was a mechanical engineer in his work, having graduated from Centennial College in 2002. He spent his days designing worldly items such as high-tension hydro towers and managing worksites. On weekends, he worked in his father’s machine shop. John was always more than his career. He was an avid classic rock fan, playing guitar in his spare time. The first rain showers in November always brought to his lips the lyrics, “…And it’s hard to hold a candle/ In the cold November rain.” Spring meant baseball games to see the Toronto Blue Jays play and to play ball himself.
And there were the cars. Volkswagens were a passion of John’s. His love of auto prompted many trips to Waterfest in New Jersey, eventually inspiring him and three friends to start a VW/Audi show. VAGKRAFT Canada is the result of this obsession with stance, rims, and turbocharged
