The John Howard Society of Fredericton works with youth and adults to help them make better life decisions. We have several main focus areas:

Youth Intervention Services: A variety of services for at risk youth including job skills, life skills, mentorship, anger management, stress management, job placement, leadership, school support and liaison, referrals and more. 

Housing First for Youth: This program works with youth in need of housing supports. The program helps them establish stability by reducing the risk of incarceration or homelessness. Case Managers prioritize securing stable housing for individuals while also supporting the development of essential life skills. In addition, we own and operate a 9-unit apartment building for families fleeing violence and/or families from racialized groups. These affordable housing units provide stability to youth and their families. 

Housing First Services: Housing First is a recovery-oriented approach to ending homelessness that centres on quickly moving people experiencing homelessness into independent and permanent housing, and then providing additional supports and services as needed. Currently, we own and operate 58 permanent, affordable housing units, for people who had been experiencing homelessness.

Shelter Services: We operate a 30 bed, low-barrier shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

Street Outreach: Street outreach staff engage directly with clients who are living in public spaces or accessing emergency shelters. They go out to meet people where they are and provide essential items as well as help clients navigate the paperwork and systems that will help them secure long-term sustainable housing.
