Fort Severn First Nation, Ontario's northern most fly-in community, has a Drinking Water Emergency. THERE IS NONE.
Over the last few days, we have procured water at Thunder Bay that has been airlifted to Fort Severn. We also received a donation of 72 4 -ltr bottles from a Gurudwara (Sikh Temple) member at Thunder Bay. Those 72 bottles of water, cost Fort Severn over $2,000 to fly up.
100% of your net donation will be used to address the following:
Priority 1: Purchasing water at Thunder Bay;
Priority 2: Contributing to transportation costs by air: Fort Severn is a fly-in community and this year the Winter Road is not yet operational.
Priority 3: Implementing a sustainable way of recycling the plastics that accumulate at FSFN.
Please note that the community has also been dealing with a 'boil water' advisory since December 2021 that became long term in December 2022.(https://www.isc.gc.ca/eng/1671551266001/1671551288562)
