Maple Ridge Community Foundation Collecting Funds to Support Fire Evacuees

Maple Ridge, BC: The City of Maple Ridge is pleased to announce that the Maple Ridge Community Foundation (MRCF) will spearhead the collection and distribution of donations to directly support the people displaced by the fire that occurred downtown on June 10.

“We are grateful the Maple Ridge Community Foundation has stepped forward to take on harnessing our community’s generosity to support those displaced by the devasting fire,” said Mayor Dan Ruimy. “The Foundation has a proven record and the capacity to collect funds and work with community networks to ensure the funds go directly to those impacted.”

The Mayor contacted the MRCF Board members on Monday to share the need for an organization to lead the fundraising efforts for the people displaced by the fire. The Board met Thursday night and confirmed they would take on this role.

“Now, more than ever, it is crucial we unite as a community and extend our support to our neighbours,” added Mayor Ruimy. “I encourage anyone who would like to help to donate to the Foundation.”

The MRCF is accepting cash donations that will be distributed to assist those displaced by the downtown fire, focusing on people that do not have insurance coverage to help them stabilize their housing and recover from the fire.

“The Maple Ridge Community Foundation is honoured to be entrusted to take on this role, and we now need our community’s support to assist those who have been impacted both financially and emotionally by the devasting fire, many of whom are seniors,” said Kevin Noseworthy, President of the Maple Ridge Community Foundation. “We are welcoming cash donations which will be collected and distributed via the Community Network, ensuring they reach those in need.”
