On November 19, 2016, the Edmonton Winds established the David Erdmann Memorial Scholarship. David was an original and longtime member of the Edmonton Winds and had a deep love of music. He was also a well-respected music educator and had a lifelong passion for music education. In honour of David's memory and contribution to music education, the scholarship will provide financial assistance and mentorship to a young musician and will be awarded annually on a rotating basis as follows:
- Soloist: along with a cash award, the successful applicant will perform a solo work with the Edmonton Winds
- Composer: along with a cash award, the successful applicant will be mentored in composition for wind band, and have his/her composition played by the Edmonton Winds
- Conductor: along with a cash award, the successful applicant will be mentored in conducting, and act as assistant conductor for the Edmonton Winds.
The seed money for the scholarship was generously donated by Dave's wife, Gwen Erdmann, and her brother and sister-in-law, David and Mary Evans.
