Our Society, est. 1975, is a pioneering charitable, artist-run centre for contemporary art in Calgary. Today, we continue our vision through the operation of two venues, The New Gallery and John Snow House (JSH). These spaces enable us to promote a public engagement with contemporary art by supporting the research, creation, and exhibition of critical and forward-looking work by artists at all junctures of their careers.
As an organization, we strive to diversify our revenues and remain financial sustainable – allowing us to excel at our programming and best achieve our vision. In our most recent fiscal year, combined public sector support only made up 52% of our total operating budget. Our public funders are increasingly asking us to go out and rally community support for the visual arts to continue operating our public programs. We are fortunate to have an amazing community that does support what we do – last year, over 100 Calgarians put in over 2000 hours of volunteer work to support our vision throughout the year. While this kind of support is essential, we also need to increase our fiscal support from the private sector.
This is where you can contribute to the ongoing development of the visual arts in Canada! This GivingTuesday, we aim to raise $10,000 to go towards several special public programs and art projects taking place throughout 2015 in celebration of the Society's 40th Anniversary. Current project details can be found on our website www.thenewgallery.org or by e-mailing email@example.com
