THE NIAGARA FOUNDATION

about

The Niagara Foundation: Steward, Advocate, Thought leader and Community Partner.

The Niagara Foundation appeals to donors (individuals, corporations, and family foundations) who believe that the unique culture, history and heritage of Niagara are worth preserving—and enhancing—for future generations.

The Foundation has been recognized for dedicating time and resources to conserve, enhance, and/or designate iconic properties in Niagara-on-the-Lake, including Voices of Freedom Park, The Niagara Apothecary, The Foghorn House, William Steward House, William Gollop House, and various landmarks and artifacts.

The Wilderness: Our Most Ambitious Preservation Project

407 King Street is a five-acre parcel in Niagara-on-the-Lake—bordered by historic King, Mary, Regent and Centre streets. One Mile Creek, a watershed that intersects 93 properties, rambles through its Carolinian woods.

Known for over a century as The Wilderness, the land is of local and national significance, given its indigenous, military, political and horticultural history.

And that’s where The Foundation comes in; with a commitment to heritage protection and stewardship. Having saved this centrally located property from the threat of inappropriate development, our ambition is to revitalize The Wilderness, with the goal of long-term preservation and eventual community use.
