Rossland Light Opera Players

about

Our Mission:

To promote the love of musical theatre through community productions based in the West Kootenay.

We exist to give voice and stage to those who love the theatre and music and especially love combining the two. We exist because taking part in musical theatre is a thrill like no other. We call upon our members to stretch beyond their comfort zones and when we succeed, our audiences love and appreciate our shows.

What We Do

We present shows for the enjoyment of our families, friends and neighbours. Local non-professional actors, musicians, artists and craftsmen get a chance to grow through challenge and learning opportunities. We work to produce the best shows we can, using flair and imagination. Our productions have ranged from Gilbert and Sullivan, to classics from the golden age of Broadway, to locally-written shows about Rossland itself. We are a part of the history of this region. The RLOP started in 1951 which makes us the oldest community musical theatre group in the Kootenays.

We have participated in community events including singing at the Royal Canadian Legion on Remembrance Day; carolling for Rekindle and the lighting of Rossland's gigantic Christmas tree; marching in the Golden City Days parade; and perfoming at Joe Hill coffeehouse and the Rossland Winter Carnival.

And we give our audiences good reason to feel proud of the cultural life that thrives in their community.
