What if people in rural and remote areas around the world had the information they need to be able to work with plastic safely? What if rural, remote, and/or Indigenous communities in Canada could safely make plastic ‘waste’ into new products and artwork that their community can use, sell, and enjoy?
Landfill space in remote areas would be preserved. Less waste would be burned in burn barrels. Logistics for moving very light plastics over very large distances for recycling would be avoided. People could celebrate a new business producing things the community can use and sell.
REAC partnered with SMARTLab at the University of Alberta's department of engineering to make sure small scale plastics remanufacture equipment is safe and ready to use. This is our postcard invite to rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in Northern Alberta:
