About THE TERRACE CHURCH'S FOOD BANK
The Terrace Church’s Food Bank (TCFB) was registered as a society on April 30, 1991. Membership of this society consists of those people who have been appointed as representatives of their congregation of each Church in City of Terrace.
The TCFB is a member of Food Bank BC and Food Banks Canada and is the primary designated Food Bank for the City of Terrace, British Columbia, Canada.
The TCFB is managed and operated 100% by volunteers (Board members & floor personnel) from various church groups in Terrace. Our annual volunteer number ranges from a minimum of 60 to a maximum 150 volunteers per month of operation.
From 2008-2016, TCFB assisted 44,080 households; giving away 1.2M kg of food and other necessities, worth approximately $6.5M in assistance.
In 2017, TCFB assisted 5,473 households with an average of 547 per month. TCFB distributed 145,928 kg of food and other necessities, worth approximately $802,605 in assistance.
TCFB receive donations in various forms through: cash, food and other necessities, labor and purchasing discounts with local business. Approximately 50% of the donations comes from local businesses; 30% Church groups; 10% organization groups; schools (5%) and individuals (5%).
With the annual cash donation received, TCFB spends 92% on food and 8% on insurance (2%), distribution & storage rental (3%), administration (2%) and transportation (1%).
Each and every month, our community members access the TCFB to make ends meet. In March 2017, we assisted approximately 1,012 individuals, with 33% (or 1 in 3) person are children and teens under 18 years of age.
At our Food Bank, we extend temporary relief assistance to both working and unemployed community members. Majority (41%) of our clients are on social assistance, 16% on disability, 13% on old age pension, 12% employed and 8% are in between jobs, unemployed and/or on other source of income.
The high cost of housing in Terrace is a key driver of TCFB use. Our community members have to make a choice to spend all their earnings on rent or food each month. Sixty-one (61%) percent of our clients live in private rental housing; 15% in social housing; 13% in owned homes; 4% band owned home; 4% living with friends; 1% in group homes; 1% in shelter home and 1% on the street.
TCFB serves the communities of Terrace, Thornhill, Lakelse Lake, Old and New Remo, Gitaus, Kitselas and Rosswood. With the donation in kind surplus, TCFB assists other charity service providers in the City of Terrace.
At the Terrace Church’s Food Bank, we believe that in giving, we receive. Your continuous help and support will surely go in a long way in assisting with short-term temporary relief supplies to our own brothers and sisters in our midst.
