The 79th Cameron Highlanders of Canada took a significant step in 1911. It formalized its association with the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of the British Army, which led to both regiments becoming officially “Allied.” This was a testament to the determination of the Scottish community in Winnipeg to serve their country. The regiment was awarded its Royal designation in 1945 by King George VI. The name pays tribute to Queen Victoria.
