Free public lectures delivered by influential academics and political leaders that bring UBC and the Vancouver community together.
The Vancouver Institute (VI), an all-volunteer organization, has been in existence since 1916 to bring university and community together on a regular basis to discuss major issues of the day. Since then, the VI has acted as the University of British Columbia’s principal public lecture series, presenting the research of internationally acclaimed speakers over its long tenure.
This public educational forum reaches between 10 and 20 thousand people directly and many more indirectly each year. Over 500 past lectures are now available in either audio or video format through the UBC Library’s website.
The costs of bringing out-of-town lecturers to Vancouver are met by voluntary yearly subscriptions and welcome donations from public-minded citizens.
You are invited to contribute to the sustainability of The Institute and support its lecture series by becoming a member, a donor or a sponsor on an annual basis. All donations are tax-deductible.
