The War Amps

about

A philosophy of “amputees helping amputees” has been the hallmark of The War Amps since 1918, when the organization was founded by war amputee veterans returning home from the First World War. Over the years, The War Amps has expanded its support from assisting war amputees – whom we still serve – to include all Canadian amputees, including adults and children. It is thanks to donors like you that all our programs are possible.

Our aims and objectives are to:
• Improve the quality of life for Canadian amputees
• Provide financial assistance to amputees for their artificial limbs
• Educate amputees on all aspects of living with amputation
• Encourage child amputees to develop a positive approach to amputation and provide them with peer support and tools for future independence
• Assist war amputees with accessing their health-care benefits and services, advocate for their rights and pursue legislative change
• Advocate for the rights and interests of all amputees
• Provide a free key return service to Canadians through our Key Tag Service
• Employ amputees and other people with disabilities at the Key Tag Service sheltered workshop

The War Amps does not receive government grants; all our programs and services are made possible through donations from the public. Thanks to this support, The War Amps can continue to make a difference in the lives of amputees now and in the future.
