RECOGNIZE. MAGNIFY. REPRODUCE. Theatre Replacement builds performances that react to contemporary existence.
When making this work, we recognize the accomplishments and failures of the world around us; use biographical material to magnify these events through extended collaborative processes and training programs; and reproduce the results for local, national and international audiences.
GO PANTO GO!
The Theatre Replacement team invite you to help us bring our community the seventh(!) edition of the East Van Panto. We can't wait to share East Van Panto: Pinnochio with you this holiday season at The York Theatre. Your greatly appreciated donation will allow the company to continue bringing you Panto fun, as well as other experimental theatre works, and public programs for kids, adults and artists alike.
The East Van Panto is a joy to produce and we are so proud that it has become an annual tradition for thousands of local families. It is also an enormous undertaking for a company of our size, and we now work year-round to bring a brand-new Panto to the York Theatre each year. As a friend of the company, you will be privy to fun first looks at this year's Panto through the photos and videos we will be sharing during this campaign.
Aside from the Panto itself, we’re extremely proud of the other work we do to support young, creative thinkers. This summer marks the fifth year of PantoLand, a panto-focused summer camp immersion for kids aged 5-10. And, MINE, a show that blends live theatre, and the video game Minecraft where we collaborate with local gamer/performers aged 10-14 for each new city we tour to! Generous donations from people like you are the single most important way we can keep our projects accessible, our production values high, and sustain and build other aspects of our busy company.
Thank you so much for visiting our Canada Helps page and we’ll see you at the York Theatre for East Van Panto: Pinocchio this holiday season!
About THEATRE REPLACEMENT SOCIETY
Theatre Replacement is an ongoing collaboration between James Long and Maiko Yamamoto. Whether working together or apart, we use extended processes to create performances from intentionally simple beginnings. Our work is about a genuine attempt to coexist. Conversations, interviews and arguments collide with Yamamoto and Long’s aesthetics resulting in theatrical experiences that are authentic, immediate and hopeful.
The company continues to build and tour work, and has been presented at internationally recognized festivals and venues, including Festival TransAmériques (Montreal), Magnetic North Theatre Festival (Ottawa & Vancouver), Free Fall Festival (Toronto), High Performance Rodeo & Enbridge PlayRites Festival (Calgary), On the Boards (Seattle WA), Fusebox Festival (Austin TX), Noorderzon Festival (Groningen NL) PAZZ Performing Arts Festival (Oldenburg, Germany), Lokal (Reykjavik, Iceland), Dublin Theatre Festival (Ireland), Aarhus Festival (Denmark), INTERsection (Terni, Italy), Foreign Affairs (Berlin) and Soho Rep. (New York).
