Hello and thank you for stopping by. COVID-19 – Updates from Guatemala
Guatemala has cases of COVID-19. A state of emergency has been implemented country-wide to try to stop the spread. All schools and businesses are closed. There is a curfew with no one allowed out at night.
All of the schools supported by Together Education Works (TEW) are closed indefinitely and the ~2,000 students and their families are remaining in their homes for much of the day.
For one of the schools, a grade school located adjacent to the garbage dump in Zona 3 Guatemala City, the 250 students now live in very cramped quarters with their entire family members, with no or very limited access to the clean water and electricity. They cannot continue their studies. The breakfast and vitamin supplements, which they were receiving every morning at school, are no longer available to them. For many, this was their only nutritious meal of the day. The parents have lost their jobs – most worked at the garbage dump, which is now closed. The principal and teachers are reaching out and supporting the students and their families as best they can. At other schools supported by TEW, the situation is very difficult and the need is also great.
We need your help to help the principals and teachers at all of the schools, with delivery of food and emergency supplies. Thank You very much for your support.
