TDT Building Campaign/ Accessibility

Winchester Street Theatre, the long time artistic home of TDT and a creative hub for many artists and groups in the performing arts community, is in dire need of TLC! The Theatre was last renovated in 1979, and although the company has gone on to be to be at the forefront of contemporary, cutting edge dance practices in Canada, the facilities here are no longer current.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to make upgrades to building accessibility. Make a significant contribution to Toronto's cultural sector, we appreciate your help in reaching our goal.

Why is this important?

Since Toronto Dance Theatre first launched its home at 80 Winchester St, we have struggled with its inaccessibility. The building has 3-flights of stairs, including stairs leading into the entrance. The washrooms on the second and lower levels are not accessible, and entering the theatre space on the main floor requires the use of steps, making that inaccessible. 80 Winchester St stands as a cornerstone in our community, but its potential impact on the lives of our audience members and the community beyond can be significantly enhanced by transforming it into an accessible building.

If you have ever seen a show performed in our space or taken a dance class here, you know that this is a unique building that deserves to be maintained so it can be utilized to its fullest potential.  Annually, about 15,000 people come through the Winchester Street Theatre, including 140 artists and community groups.

This upgrade is not just about meeting legal requirements; it's about creating an inclusive space that fosters equality, dignity, and independence for everyone.

Our community needs it! Every dollar will make an immense difference.
