Transforming Cleft (Formerly Transforming Faces)
Our Mission
We partner locally and innovate globally so that children and families in under-resourced communities access Comprehensive Cleft Care.
Our Vision
Our vision is for all children affected by cleft lip and palate to experience full rehabilitation and community inclusion with the support of a trusted local health team.
Our Approach
Cleft is best treated with Comprehensive Cleft Care (CCC). That is the treatment pathway that is most helpful, appropriately timed, and suitable to ensure a child’s full rehabilitation.
With nutrition support, safe surgeries can be scheduled at the right time. With speech support, children can be understood at home and at school. With counselling, kids can engage the community with confidence. You can help children access the cleft care they deserve.
About Cleft Lip and Palate
Clefts are unexpected openings or gaps. They can limit a child’s ability to eat, to breathe, to speak, and to fully participate in community life.
Clefts are often found on an infant’s lips and/or the roof of their mouth (the palate). Cleft is one of the most common birth anomalies worldwide.
Clefts develop in the first trimester of pregnancy when key tissues do not fuse together. Some children are born with both a cleft lip and a cleft palate. Clefts may also be associated with specific syndromes. Today, cleft is not preventable, but some measures have proven beneficial
A combination of genetic and environmental influences is believed to trigger the condition, which occurs in infants around the world.
