At the Ucluelet Aquarium, our mission is to inspire respect for the ocean by raising awareness about the incredible marine biodiversity of British Columbia’s west coast. Located in the heart of Ucluelet on Vancouver Island, we welcome visitors from around the world and offer a unique, hands-on experience with local marine life from the rich waters of Clayoquot and Barkley Sounds.We are proud to be Canada’s first collect-and-release aquarium—a not-for-profit society with a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. Every animal in our care is collected from nearby ecosystems and released back to its original habitat at the end of our season. This sustainable approach minimizes our environmental impact while ensuring that our displays remain dynamic, diverse, and engaging. Open daily from March 1 to November 30, we invite you to explore tide pools, touch tanks, and interactive exhibits featuring fascinating local fish and invertebrates. Our passionate and knowledgeable staff are always on hand to share insights, answer questions, and help you connect more deeply with the ocean around you. We also lead meaningful community initiatives like The Healthy Harbour Project, a research effort to monitor marine and community health in Ucluelet, and The Salmon Trail, an educational outreach program that teaches participants about the salmon lifecycle and why salmon are so important to coastal communities.
