WHY UNITED WAY?
We invest in communities.
We are strategic about how and where your dollars are invested, and it’s our job to make sure the money goes where it’s needed most. Whether funding programs that teach conflict resolution skills to a high-risk family, enable a senior to live independently or help a high school student stay in school, United Way’s impact is local, tangible and meaningful.
United Way gives people in your community the opportunity to reach their potential and improve their quality of life. We bring together business, government, school boards, and others to address the root causes of social issues and develop long-term strategies to solve them.
WHO DO WE HELP?
Our United Way serves an area of roughly one-quarter of Alberta, from Grande Cache to the NWT border and from Slave Lake to the B.C. border. We focus on ensuring the funding we provide our community partners has a significant positive impact in our communities and is based on outcome measures and identified need. Every year we allocate money to approximately 30 programs. For maximum community impact, we focus on Poverty Reduction, Strong Communities, and Successful Kids. We believe that to address those issues in a meaningful way, we will need to increase our resources.
OUR MISSION.
The United Way is a voluntary organization whose mission is to acquire and coordinate resources to improve the quality of life for people in need.
Together, we:
-
Value trust, integrity, transparency, inclusivity, and respect
-
energize and inspire volunteerism and volunteer leadership
-
endorse innovation, partnerships and collective action
-
provide non-partisan leadership
-
embrace diversity
Community Impact is about achieving meaningful, long-term improvements to the quality of life in Canadian communities by addressing not just the symptoms of problems, but also getting at the root causes. It’s about making fundamental changes to community conditions.
