Unity helps youth develop resilience via Hip Hop-based programming & provides development and employment opportunities to emerging artists.

What is Unity Charity? Unity is a national charity that uses Hip Hop to build resilience in underserved and equity-deserving youth (ages 13–29). We offer free programs that support mental health, awareness, community building and career development across Canada.
Why Hip Hop? Hip Hop is healing, expressive, and powerful. It speaks directly to youth - especially those who’ve been excluded from traditional arts spaces and socioeconomic opportunities. Our programs are culturally relevant, community-rooted, and led by artists, mentors and youth who reflect the communities we serve.
Our Reach & Impact: Celebrating 18 years!
- Active in Ontario, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, and Alberta
- We have served over 534,000 youth to date!
- Through our programs, 96% of youth report improving resilience and social capital!
The Challenges We Address: We tackle barriers like the youth mental health crisis, lack of access to arts and wellness spaces, the digital divide, and underfunding of Hip Hop and equity-deserving artists. More info below!
- Mental Health Crisis: Youth are facing a mental health crisis, and too often, creative outlets for healing and expression remain out of reach
- Access Gaps: Barriers like cost, geography, and lack of culturally relevant programs prevent youth from accessing artistic, wellness and social support.
- Digital Divide: Low-income youth are cut off from digital tools that enable connection, collaboration, and visibility in today’s hybrid world.
- Underfunded Hip Hop: Despite shaping global culture, Hip Hop and its artists receive little support in Canada’s arts funding landscape.
- Barriers in Creative Careers: Black, Racialized and 2SLGBTQ+ youth face disproportionate barriers to mentorship, training, and paid opportunities in the creative industries
How We Address Challenges– Free, year-round programs led by alumni, mentors & industry experts from the community:
- Outreach & Awareness (FORMERLY Inspire): Performances and events where we bring Hip Hop’s healing, resistance, and artistry to stages, schools, and streets nationwide.
- Community & Mental Health (FORMERLY Engage): Weekly workshops that build resilience, social inclusion and transferable skills
- Career Development (FORMERLY Empower): Industry-led mentorship and training to help youth turn their passions into careers.
