Vancouver Cantata Singers was founded in 1957, and is one of Canada’s preeminent, award-winning choral ensembles.
The Vancouver Cantata Singers is one of Canada’s preeminent, award-winning choral ensembles. Known for its exceptional artistry, technical virtuosity and exquisite tonal blend, the choir maintains the highest standards of performance in repertoire encompassing 500 years, from Renaissance to pop music.
The VCS was awarded the Canada Council for the Arts Healey Willan Prize, the country’s most prestigious award, in 2019 for the fourth time - more than any other ensemble in its history. It was also awarded Best Performance of a Canadian Work and First Place in the Adult Mixed-Voice Category.
Led by Paula Kremer since 2013, VCS supports Canadian composers through commissions of new works, creating innovative and extremely successful collaborations with acclaimed regional as well as international artists and ensembles.
VCS is a registered charitable organization and an incorporated society in British Columbia. We employ professional singers and musicians and rely on a large volunteer base to provide audiences with first class performances, newly commissioned works, and educational outreach activities.
A mainstay on the Canadian music scene for over 60 years, the VCS has maintained the highest levels of artistry in choral singing while continuing to reinvent and redefine itself, reaching out to new audiences, local communities, musicians and composers.
