Created in 2005 by the charitable non-profit society, Vancouver’s signature springtime event and cherry blossom capital of Canada – the Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival (VCBF) has grown to become a vital intra-community arts and cultural festival.
The Festival’s two-fold mission is:
• To actively engage diverse communities through accessible arts and culture that celebrates the transcendent fragile beauty of the cherry blossoms; and,
• To sustain and renew Vancouver’s cherry tree heritage.
This is achieved through our mandate to collaborate with locally diverse artists who are inspired by the cherry blossom’s transcendent beauty to define this aesthetic through their art form. This produces exciting new arts and cultural productions including the performing, and visual arts, media, literary, culinary arts, excursions, and outreach to the schools, generating rare and joyful unifying cultural experiences for everyone. We build community through a month-long celebration of beauty, urban nature and rejuvenation, directly benefitting about 120,000 participants annually and putting smiles on the faces of thousands more! The Festival mantra “there is no stranger under the cherry tree” welcomes inclusion, participation and celebration by all community groups.
