VITA is dedicated to building of a 700 km wilderness hiking, non-motorized trail from Victoria to Cape Scott on Vancouver Island.
The Vancouver Island Trail Association (VITA), formerly Vancouver Island Spine Trail Assn., is dedicated to building a trail for hiking, cycling and other non-motorized users from Victoria at the southern tip of Vancouver Island to Cape Scott at the most northerly tip, a distance of about 700 km. It is now 80% complete.
The trail will connect sections built by the Trans Canada Trail from Victoria to Lake Cowichan village, then sections built by volunteers and First Nations from west of Lake Cowichan to Port Alberni and then through Strathcona Provincial Park, and ending with the North Coast Trail to Cape Scott. Much of the trail construction and maintenance has been done by volunteers.
The association operates with a volunteer board of directors and has no paid employees.
