Our Mission
The purpose of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra is to enrich and transform lives through music. We fulfill our purpose by presenting passionate, high-quality performances of classical, popular and culturally diverse music and creating meaningful engagement with audiences of all ages and backgrounds wherever we perform.
About Vancouver Symphony Orchestra
Founded in 1919, the VSO performs over 150 concerts each season throughout the Lower Mainland and beyond, attracting a diverse audience of all ages and backgrounds.
The VSO also delivers 13 inspirational music education and community outreach programs to students of all ages, and VSO musicians make more than 100 classroom visits each year.
Adapting through the COVID-19 Pandemic
Like many organizations, our programming plans were shifted dramatically when gatherings of no more than 50 people were implemented. Our full orchestra was no longer able to come together, our theatre spaces were shut and school classrooms were not available to deliver our education programs.
Our musicians have been performing virtually from their homes and creating music education videos to support schools, students, and parents new to homeschooling. We are also expanding our Digital Concert Hall to include livestreaming performances in the fall which will also be a space available to other performing arts organizations in the Lower Mainland.
Your gift will greatly impact our ability to create, deliver and expand programs for you, for students and for families across our region and to keep the music playing.
