Our Mission
The Victoria Society for Children with Autism (VSCA) is a registered non-profit society established in 1970. VSCA’s monthly meetings provide a forum for parents and professionals to communicate on the issues surrounding autism, and a network for parent support. Our active fundraising program helps provide support to our members through providing financial respite, community events and programming, and providing weekly food bank services to families in our community.
Our objectives are to:
provide support and information to families of autistic children and teens
provide social and recreational opportunities to children and teens with autism and their families; increase awareness of autism; and support research in the field of autism
support families through financial respite and provision of food bank resources
About Victoria Society for Children with Autism
The Victoria Society for Children with Autism (VSCA) supports children with autism and their families in a number of ways.
We have monthly meetings where members can get a chance to talk with other parents, hear the occasional guest speaker, and sign out books, DVD’s, OT equipment and educational materials from our lending library.
Through our newsletter, you’ll find out about the latest happenings at VSCA and in the Victoria area. There is also a small pool of respite funding available to our members.
VSCA holds several workshops each year on autism-related topics - these already-inexpensive events are available at a reduced price to our members, and are always held here in Victoria.
VSCA holds social events to allow families to meet one another in a supportive and understanding environment. We offer a range of activities so there are events that will appeal to children of all ages, and give them a chance to form friendships with peers sharing similar interests.
The weekly food rescue program collects landfill-bound food items close to expiry from local grocery stores and provides them to families in our community on a weekly basis. This helps to ease the financial toll related to raising high-support needs children as well as contributes to community sustainability efforts.
