Vidéographe is an artist-run centre dedicated to the distribution and dissemination of independent works. The artists are central to our mission, which is achieved through our distribution, programming, publication, training and educational activities.
Vidéographe’s mission centers around five elements: giving exposure to the discipline and developing audiences through programming activities that highlight the plurality of the artistic practice; ensuring the distribution of works and fair remuneration for artists; promoting research and development by providing support and guidance, as well as access to resources and expertise, to artists, researchers and curators; supporting the acquisition of professional knowledge and the development of the community; enriching the collection and ensuring it is accessible. Through our actions, we endeavour to promote recognition and understanding of both contemporary and archival works.
Vidéographe’s activities are intrinsically connected in ways that enrich, activate, illuminate, and make the organization’s collection accessible. Today, Vidéographe’s collection brings together more than 2,500 works created by nearly 1,000 artists, and continues to grow each year. To foster accessibility, Vidéographe developed the Vithèque platform, which brings together all the works in its collection. As an undeniable cultural heritage, it highlights the artistic issues and social movements that have shaped the territory since the early 1970s.
