The Seniors and Disabled population living in Airdrie are an untapped resource for the development of our youth and community service projects. At the same time, the Seniors and Disabled can benefit from being involved in volunteering through improvements in physical & mental health, longevity and quality of life.
The City of Airdrie has launched a project to become Canada's Healthiest Community, which may include being designated as a Blue Zone Project city. In addition, Airdrie has invested considerable time and resources in designing and implementing its Youth Strategy to address youth issues.
To support these municipal goals, Volunteer Airdrie plans to launch its Seniors & Disabled Volunteering Programs in 2019. One of these programs will be a "Teeniors" model, which matches up teens with seniors and/or disabled residents to identify, plan and execute projects to address a community need.
