We are campaigning to ask your help in raising funds for a very important project: the completion of a financial audit of our Society. This is an important step in our ongoing fundraising strategy. We find that the majority of granters require an audit to allow us to apply. Though our operating budget is comparatively small, we offer many services covering the entire Slocan Valley, making us a somewhat complex operation. An independent audit by a professional accounting firm will open funding doors currently closed to us.
We offer multiple essential programs and services within the Slocan Valley including: a Daycare, 6 weeks of Summer Day Camps, Food Bank, Food Bank Garden, Cooking Classes, Skate Park, Seniors' Lunch, Youth Centre, Youth Group, and a 15 passenger youth van that provides Slocan Valley Youth with free, safe weekend transportation up and down the Slocan Valley. We also host an art therapist, addictions counselors, a career counselor once weekly, and make space available for health services like the mobile mammogram or fentanyl overdose first aid training. Our heavily used volunteer-supported computer lab offers public internet access and computer skills coaching. In other words, this community hub has provided critical and otherwise unavailable services in our area since 1997. With an expansion to our Food Bank and Community Gardens newly approved, the pending completion of our Food Bank storage extension, the urgent need for a larger vehicle for weekend youth transportation, the Day Camp series for children underway and our usual array of ongoing programming, we are eager to gain access to larger granting opportunities for our Society. Are you able to contribute towards this goal?
We reached out to many accounting firms throughout the region and found Jeremy Childs of Markin Childs Chartered Professional Accountants to be cost effective, helpful, and highly recommended. The audit will cost $7,400. To access this offer, we need to raise 50% of the cost of the audit before they start, and the remaining 50% on a payment plan within a year. Fundraising events are underway now to raise the monthly payments. We hope to engage donors like you to raise the initial payment of $3700.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions! If you chose to donate, make out the contribution to WEGCSS, and mark your donation “Audit”. As we are a charitable organization, we will be happy to generate a tax receipt for your donation, which you will receive in early 2019.
Many thanks for your consideration!
Miryam Bishop and the WEGCSS team
