Rainbow Camp®

about

Welcome Friend Association is a registered Canadian charity creating brave, affirming spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and families. Our flagship program, Rainbow Camp®, provides life-changing experiences that reduce isolation, build confidence, and remind young people they are not alone.

Many of the youth we serve come from communities where inclusive, identity-affirming programs simply do not exist. For them, Rainbow Camp® is often the first place they feel fully safe being themselves.

Our Mission

To support 2SLGBTQ+ youth and families by creating safe, inclusive, and affirming spaces where young people can grow, connect, and thrive.

What We Do

🌈 Rainbow Camp® A residential summer camp offering:

  • A fully affirming environment for 2SLGBTQ+ youth and allies

  • Trained staff and Brave Space policies

  • Creative arts, outdoor activities, leadership, and peer connection

  • Youth-centred, trauma-informed programming

🌐 Year-Round Programs

  • Online connection and peer support

  • Community outreach and education

  • Brave Space training for organizations, educators, and community groups

Who We Help

  • 2SLGBTQ+ youth (primarily ages 8–18)

  • Youth facing bullying, isolation, and mental-health stress

  • Families seeking affirming community and support

We prioritize access for youth from rural, northern, and underserved communities.

Why Your Support Matters

Demand for affirming spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ youth continues to grow, while funding for inclusive programs has become increasingly uncertain. Your donation helps ensure:

  • No youth is turned away due to financial barriers

  • Campers have access to safe, affirming experiences

  • Programs remain accessible to those who need them most

Every gift helps a young person feel seen, valued, and supported.

Our Impact

  • Thousands of youth and families supported since founding

  • Consistently high demand and waitlists for programs

  • Campers report increased confidence, belonging, and resilience

  • Many former campers return as volunteers and youth leaders

Looking Ahead

We are working toward securing a permanent home for Rainbow Camp®, allowing us to expand programming, reduce long-term costs, and provide year-round support for youth.

Recognition

Co-Founders Harry Stewart and his husband Chris Southin were awarded the Governor General of Canada Meritorious Service Medal for their contribution to inclusive community building and youth well-being.
