Dear Friends of the West Coast General Hospital (WCGH) Foundation,
Once again, the Holiday Season is upon us and once again, the WCGH Foundation Board of Directors wishes to gratefully acknowledge our many individual and business donors for your continued generosity. Your donations make it possible for the Foundation to be a key fundraiser and advocate for your health care at the hospital and now at Westhaven long-term care facility as well. Increasingly, over the years since the Foundation came into being in 1990, we are called upon to help our local hospital maintain and improve health care services because hospitals everywhere face the challenges of meeting growing health care demands with shrinking government budgets. As a charitable organization, the Foundation is well aware that there are many other worthwhile and deserving charities in our community seeking your support. With that in mind, we will be even more grateful should you choose, during this Season of Giving, to support the Foundation. On behalf of all residents of the Alberni Valley, the Foundation, in partnership with WCGH and Westhaven, continues to strive to provide and protect the best attainable health care as close to home as possible, for all of us, from birth to end of life.

Digital Cell Morphology by CellaVision: A unique technology that addresses one of the last remaining automation gaps in routine hematology testing: the process of performing cell differentials. CellaVision technology provides a new and more efficient approach to performing cell differentials.
The CellaVision DC-1 is designed to automate and simplify the process of performing blood cell differentials in low-volume laboratories like ours at WCGH.
Improves Efficiency by replacing manual microscopy with an automated digital imaging system that saves time and frees up skilled staff.
The system leverages high-speed robotics and digital imaging to automatically locate and capture high quality images of cells. The automation offered by this technology removes the laborious and tedious aspects of performing cell differentials, giving Medical Technologists more time to focus on what really matters – the detection of abnormal cells and first-class service delivery to clinicians.
Improves Connectivity to create a collaborative process that makes more efficient and flexible use of resources, staff and skills.
The system allows both stand-alone and networked installation. When used in a smaller satellite site in a health network like ours, the CellaVision DC-1 allows the process and review of blood smears locally and remotely as well as improving collaboration with colleagues and morphology experts at other sites. This results in faster and more standardized test results.
You can make a personal donation or donate in honor or memory of a loved one. No contribution to our goal is too small. All donors will receive a thank you letter and tax deductible receipt. Donors of gifts of $2,000.00 or more will receive a beautiful framed photograph of one of three iconic Port Alberni scenes in recognition of your generous donation.
Your donations really do make a difference. Thank you for your continued support and generosity. Together we can make our hospital the best possible health care facility for all of us.
The Board of Directors and Staff of the WCGH Foundation extend our warmest wishes to you and your families for the Holiday Season and the New Year.
