About WEST END SENIORS' NETWORK SOCIETY
WESN was incorporated in 1982 to provide programs, services and support for the approximately 11,000 older adults living in Vancouver’s West End neighbourhood and surrounding area. Today, WESN offers more than 60 programs, services and events at three locations, and more than 225 dedicated volunteers.
The majority of our programs and services are based at Barclay Manor, a heritage building and home-like setting, where we host a variety of activities and events that focus on socializing, recreation, engagement, entertainment and education.
Our Community Services mobilize a team of volunteers to help homebound older adults in our area through friendly visiting, check-in calls and emails, accompaniment to medical appointments and grocery shopping.
Our Kay's Place location in the Denman Place Mall provides information and referrals about various federal, provincial, municipal and community programs and services to older adults. We also offer confidential peer support services for older adults experiencing difficulty with life stressors (e.g., illness, isolation, loss, retirement, etc.). Kay's Place also provides a safe and welcoming social space where older adults can connect with one another. You can find out more about Kay's Place by watching our short video.
Our Clothes & Collectibles Thrift Store, also in the Denman Place Mall, provides much-needed revenue as well as engagement opportunities for over 40 volunteers (most of whom are themselves older adults). The store also functions as a place where isolated seniors, many of whom live on very low incomes, can stop by to connect with others and purchase small items at very reasonable prices.
