Most of our programs are operating online and by phone, including immigration and refugee services, support for women experiencing violence, case management, adult learning, and more.
We continue to provide these in-person essential programs — from a safe physical distance:
- Meals on Wheels
- The Meeting Place drop-in for homeless adults
- In-home care from Personal Support Workers for seniors and adults with disabilities
When times are hard, we show up for our neighbours.
Some of our neighbours who were struggling before the COVID-19 crisis are in urgent need now. In these uncertain times, here's what hasn't changed at West Neighbourhood House: we take care of the most vulnerable in our community.
But we need your help. Your donations will help us hire and train additional staff to address the growing need, and purchase essential equipment such as laptops for volunteers to work remotely.
In response to the crisis, we’re launching:
- COVID-19 Financial problem-solving and employment services: We are helping low-income people in crisis file their taxes and get refunds, apply for benefits like Employment Insurance and the new Canadian Emergency Response Benefit (CERB), and gain access to job opportunities. Your donations will help us hire and train additional staff to do this critical and time-sensitive work.
Neighbour-to-neighbour mutual aid: We are supporting and training a network of volunteers to run errands and provide social support and referrals over the phone for isolated seniors and others in need during the pandemic.
