During the summer of 2021, the Government of Alberta announced that the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre would be a priority for a complete redesign and renovation of the Emergency Department in order to enhance patient and staff experiences, as well as safety. When the opportunity to support this project was brought to us, we knew it would significantly benefit our community in the best possible way. As such, we have committed to provide $2.1 million in state-of-the-art equipment to support the revitalization of Emergency Care in Wetaskiwin and ensure everyone has access to the high-level care they deserve.
Through the provision of modern life-saving equipment, this campaign is working to ensure that all patients requiring emergency care in our region are receiving the best care possible, while remaining close to home. Patients across all demographics, and from several surrounding communities, access the Emergency Department daily, and there is an increasing demand for more timely, effective, and enhanced care measures. When our hospital was built, it met the needs of a population much smaller than we see today. Today our Emergency Department faces over 25,000 visits a year, a number far greater than its original capacity. Too often rural Albertans are required to access life-saving healthcare services away from home; By providing the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre with modern, enhanced, and essential equipment the Give to Life campaign will ensure that every patient receives the best possible care, close to home.
This funding will provide more than 35,000 rural Albertan residents from the City and County of Wetaskiwin, aged 0 to over 90, with access to more enhanced emergency care services, locally.
