Trek for Families

After 17-years of service, Captain Wright Eruebi is honoured to give back to the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) by raising money for the Military Family Resource Centres (MFRC).  He’s embarking on a 200 km trek from CFB Shilo to CFB Winnipeg. to raise funds to help military families.

Captain Wright Eruebi joined the Canadian Armed Forces 17-years ago shortly after immigrating to Canada from Nigeria. He retires on 24 October in 2018.

Captain Eruebi has served in all three elements of the CAF - six years in the Navy, four in the Army, and seven years with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He says of his job, “What privilege. What opportunity. What honour.” He believes that the love and support of partners, spouses, and family are the quiet but unspoken spark that drives every member of the Canadian Armed Forces to perform with the distinction they do. He knows that military families are truly “The Strength Behind the Uniform”, and the MFRC’s bring strength to military families.

The 200-kilometers “road march” starts at CFB Shilo at 7 am on Sunday, September 30 and ends at the Winnipeg MFRC at CFB Winnipeg on Tuesday, October 8.

Captain Eruebi hopes that all Canadians will support him by donating generously to support his walk. With a fundraising goal of $17,000 - $1000 for every year he has served in our Canadian Armed Forces – it breaks down to $85 per kilometer. Every dollar donated is going to the MFRC.

Captain Eruebi hopes to meet as many Canadians along the way during his trek, with planned stops in Portage la Prairie and Headingley.

Anyone wishing to join Captain Eruebi at any point during the walk is welcome to do so. Please follow his journey on social media - #TrekForFamilies

There are about 4,000 Canadian Armed Forces family members living in the Winnipeg MFRC’s service region of CFB Winnipeg and CFB Thunder Bay. Military lifestyle isn’t always easy for the families of those who serve our country through the CAF. The quality of their family life may be affected by many factors, including imposed postings and short-notice deployments. Since 1991, the Winnipeg MFRC has been providing programs and services to military families who face the unique challenges of the military lifestyle. With your continued support, the MFRC cultivates a knowledgeable and mission ready community of strong military families. The Winnipeg MFRC is a non-profit organization with charitable status. It is family governed and works in close partnership with the Department of National Defence. For more information about the MFRC and the programs and services offered, visit www.cafconnection.ca/Winnipeg or call 204-833-2500 ext. 4500.
