About WINNIPEG'S CONTEMPORARY DANCERS
Winnipeg's Contemporary Dancers is Canada's oldest and one of its most respected modern dance companies. Formed in 1964 by Rachel Browne, WCD grew by the mid-70's to encompass the School of Contemporary Dancers, an apprentice program, a subscription series and touring on a national and international level.
WCD is committed to the training and development of dancers, choreographers, teachers, technicians, designers and arts administrators. During its 55-year history, the Company has worked with scores of exceptional Canadian and international artists, establishing a reputation for presentation of dance of the highest quality. It has presented hundreds of performances of commissioned and remounted creations, for audiences across the country and abroad. WCD has had a significant impact on both the development and the standard of contemporary dance in Canada.
