about

Our Mission

W&M Dance Projects believe in the power of dance to inspire, to move people and create change, and that performance has a critical role to play in stimulating thought and expression in our society. The company is dedicated to creating and presenting high quality, professional dance work to diverse audiences; crossing boundaries of culture, language, and social stratum.

Our mission is to explore and develop a visceral and kinetic movement language and create an emotional, visual, and organic experience for our audiences. Through our core programming and our continuous investment in our communities, local and international, we are fully committed to creating opportunities and experiences that engage, stimulate, educate, and promote dialogue.

W&M Dance Projects recently launched WildDogs International Screendance Festival in the summer of 2020. The festival's goal is to foster the growth and development of the international Screendance community.

About W&M DANCE PROJECTS OF CALGARY ASSOCIATION

Founded in 1994, W&M Dance Projects is the umbrella name encompassing two contemporary dance entities under the artistic direction of Wojciech Mochniej and Melissa Monteros. The artistic directors strive to use an abstract physical form to create a readable language. All of this is informed by their experiences from Poland and Finland, and influenced by European theatrical forms.

Based in Calgary Alberta, W&M Physical Theatre is a professional creation and production company showcasing the work of Wojciech Mochniej and Melissa Monteros. As artists, both Mochniej and Monteros are interested in remaining open; to inspiration, to finding a connection between how we live and respond as humans and the political and social currents that surface in our environment, and to exploring the deeper and sometimes darker currents that lurk below the surface. Their artistic vision is always evolving, maturing, and deepening.

W&M Physical Theatre has performed in Poland, Austria, Finland, Germany, Lithuania, Italy, Estonia, France, and Canada. W&M Physical Theatre's latest film work "UNFRAMED" has received international acclaim and been awarded 12 prestigious awards from festivals such as Best Short Fest and Bucharest International Dance Film Festival.

W&M2 company (the apprentice company) is designed for hard working, self-motivated dancers who are nearing a professional level. The program strives to provide these dancers with a ladder into the professional world by offering them challenges in the rehearsal process and presentation opportunities to develop as performers. This young company performs works by establish professional choreographers.

WildDogs International Screendance Festival proudly operates with international bases around the world, making our screendance festival unique, exclusive, and ever-evolving! With successful pop-up screenings in Calgary (AB), Saskatoon (SK) and Honolulu (HI), and various online screening events for international audiences, we are eagerly anticipating future events within the international screendance community. WildDogs participants have the opportunity for their films to be screened in multiple places around the world, which promotes rich dialogue and feedback for the artists. Our pop-up screenings also allow cities with emerging screendance interests to grow their communities and conversations about the art form.
