Humane population management of Wolfe Island's feral cats

Wolfe Island Friends of Ferals

about

We are a group of concerned volunteers committed to humanely managing Wolfe Island's rapidly expanding feral cat population.

Our Goals

Our immediate focus is to trap and transport, spay-neuter, vaccinate against rabies, and return these cats to their colonies, to live out their lives as healthily as possible.

Our broader long-term goal is to improve the general welfare of feral cats on the island by providing winter feral cat shelter, food and re-homing of kittens.

Our Location

Wolfe Island is the largest island in the Thousand Islands on the St. Lawrence River near Kingston, Ontario. Approximately 124 square kilometers in size, it is home to approximately 1400 permanent human residents and 600 summer residents.

The island is one of those ‘convenient’ spots where misguided owners abandon unwanted pets, perhaps because they fear euthanasia if they surrender the pet to a shelter, or they think the animal has a chance of being taken in by someone, or will at least find shelter from the harsh winter weather in a shed or barn. This has resulted in an explosion of hundreds of feral and free-roaming cats all over Wolfe Island.

Without intervention, these cats will continue to breed exponentially.

Without intervention, the feral cat population will soon outnumber the human population.

100% of your donation (excluding the payment processing fee) will be used to pay for veterinary services and trapping supplies.
