Since 1981, the Women & Children’s Shelter of Barrie has been providing a safe refuge and emergency support services for abused women and their children in its commitment to end the cycle of gender based violence.
We maintain a 27-bed shelter location for women who have left abusive relationships with or without their children and an off-site location for women in the community who are seeking support. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and staffed by trained professionals. Agency staff provides counselling, safety planning, women and children’s groups, legal and court support, referrals, information and education about violence against women. All services are free of charge and confidential.
Partial funding for our agency comes from the Ministry of Community & Social Services, with the balance generated through fundraising events and private donations.
What People Are Saying
"“I was in a place full of darkness, you guys teach me to look inside me and collect my pieces. With that I found some peace. Thank you all.” "
