WINS’ free goods program sees massive increase in calls due to job layoffs and temporary closures throughout the Calgary area
WINS is currently experiencing a large increase in calls for service and resources due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. To accommodate these needs, their five Calgary-area family thrift stores are currently continuing to operate as an essential resource in the city.
As part of its retail, program and community services offerings, WINS also operates a program that supplies clothing, furniture and household basic needs for low-income women and their families for free. This essential program is seeing a dramatic increase in clients. WINS is currently the only agency operating in Calgary to provide free goods in this crisis.
You can help WINS in two ways:
1) By donating any surplus cleaning and disinfecting supplies.
● Disposable Gloves
● Hand Sanitizer
● Disinfecting Spray & Wipes
● Clorox Bleach
● Spray bottles
● All-purpose cleaner
● CLR Cleaner
● Cleaning Cloths
● Cleaning Bucket
● Floor Mops
● Floor Brooms
● Paper Towel
Cleaning supplies will be accepted at any of their five family thrift stores during regular business hours, or at WINS’ new donation centre, located at Bay 26, 137, 7007 54 Street SE. Any surplus supplies will be redistributed to local agencies most in need.
2) Calgarians can make a cash donation to WINS. WINS is anticipating a longer-term demand from Calgarians to access its programs and services throughout the COVID-19 crisis. We anticipate we will continue to see a great need from our most vulnerable, as well as those who may have recently experienced a layoff and need to keep their families safe.
WINS is constantly monitoring the ongoing global health situation and will update its plan and procedures as necessary, based on recommendations from Alberta Health Services. Their resource centre and staff are available for assistance by phone at (403) 255-5102 ext. 226.
WINS would like to thank its partners, sponsors and the community for their ongoing support as the community works together to support those most vulnerable.
