The mission of the Women’s Art Museum of Canada (WAM) is to collect, preserve and present women’s visual heritage. WAM's purpose is to create interest in, knowledge of, and an appreciation and respect for this art by sharing the stories behind their cultural production. Knowing and understanding the contributions of women in the visual arts enriches all of us.
Through the work of dedicated volunteers, WAM has maintained and operated a small museum at La Cité francophone in Edmonton since October 2015. We offer to the public free access to art made by women artists, and we educate the public on the value of this visual heritage. Coined by one of our founding members, Kristine van Eyk, "WAM is dedicated to preserving women's visual heritage."
