Women’s Habitat has been operating a shelter in South Etobicoke since 1978. In response to the need of women in the community and with extensive community consultation Women’s Habitat opened the Outreach Centre in 2006. Our mission is to provide a safe refuge, counselling, support and advocacy for women and children who are fleeing violence.
Testimonial: “Since I found Women’s Habitat I’ve grown immensely. The staff taught me to care for myself, not just others. Now, I’m a strong, caring person. At the Outreach Centre I found me. I will be forever grateful.”
Onsite at the Outreach centre services such as crisis counselling, individual and group counselling for women, children, and teens are available. Additionally assistance with safety and transitional planning, housing applications, applying for financial or legal assistance, and mediation involving landlord and tenant issues are provided.
Our 25 bed shelter location provides safety and refuge for women and children fleeing violence. Residents receive support, counselling and referrals to community services such as legal aid, subsidized childcare and housing, and employment counselling. Our child and youth counsellors work diligently with children and teens to address the effects of abuse. Your support will make a huge difference in the lives of these vulnerable women and children. By investing in them your gift will have a lasting impact on their development, creating a brighter, safer future.
