On Your Mark Volunteer Tutoring Program

Campaign Ends Jan. 3, 2020

On Your Mark (OYM) provides free one-on-one and small group tutoring for students who are struggling in school, helping them gain the skills and confidence needed to succeed.  OYM aims to help students improve and maintain their grades, prevent school dropouts and increase post-secondary applications.

We are proud that 80% of students enrolled in OYM move onto post-secondary education!

The program is offered from Grade 1 through to Grade 12, with most students staying with the program for 4-5 years.   240-260 students are referred annually by teachers.  Each student is matched with a trained volunteer tutor and benefits from 50 hours of free tutoring.

In the elementary grades tutoring focuses on the core skills of literacy and numeracy.  As students get older, tutors help with additional subjects and explore educational and career goals.  In addition to the academic support, sessions provide mentoring, foster friendships and help build self-esteem.

  • Delivered in partnership with TDSB and TCDSB.
  • Utilizes expertise of teachers-in-training through strong partnerships with Teacher College programs at University of Toronto and York University.
  • Parent participation is mandatory.
